The Otara Trust is a Sri Lankan organisation focused on environmental, wildlife conservation and animal welfare. It is committed to protecting Sri Lanka's rich biodiversity, preserving the natural environment and improving the lives of its community dogs via the work carried out by Embark, while inspiring future generations to recognise the importance of protecting what makes our island truly unique.
Every day, Embark responds to cases involving injured and sick dogs in need of urgent care. Dogs receive veterinary treatment, surgery, vaccinations and other necessary medical attention, followed by rehabilitation and recovery.
Where appropriate, dogs are returned to their communities once they have recovered, while puppies and dogs are also given opportunities for adoption into loving homes.
Supporting community dogs goes beyond emergency rescue. Embark carries out feeding programmes every Tuesday & Friday, and community outreach to provide ongoing care and encourage more compassionate and responsible attitudes towards street animals.
By working alongside individuals and communities, Embark aims to promote coexistence and improve the wellbeing of street dogs across Sri Lanka.
Embark helps create a pathway from life on the streets to a safe and loving home.
Through adoption initiatives, rescued puppies and dogs are given the opportunity to find families where they can receive the care, security and companionship they deserve.
